Industry-NIPTE Partnership

The National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education community represents some of the nation’s leading academic experts in pharmaceutical technology and advanced manufacturing. While industry-academic partnerships have long existed, there has historically been no centralized pathway to efficiently connect industry needs with specialized academic expertise across institutions and disciplines.

Recognizing this critical gap, NIPTE established the Advisory Council on Industry Relations — a collaborative initiative designed to serve as a one-stop gateway for pharmaceutical companies seeking access to top faculty scientists, researchers, and innovative academic programs across the NIPTE network.

The Advisory Council fosters meaningful partnerships between corporate sponsors and academic researchers, accelerating innovation, expanding collaboration opportunities, and strengthening engagement between industry leaders and experts across all NIPTE institutions.

NIPTE is composed of 16 member universities and one affiliate university, led by their schools or colleges of pharmacy or, in some cases, engineering. All faculty members at a member university can participate in NIPTE if they so choose.

There are approximately 150 active faculty members with individual research programs that fit within the scope of NIPTE’s mission. NIPTE members collectively possess a breadth and depth of fundamental scientific knowledge, analytical capability, and process development capability that are unlikely to be matched by any single organization. Furthermore, the NIPTE Consulting Consortium has the capability of assembling inter-institutional project teams of leading academic experts tailored to each industry project. The NIPTE Consulting Consortium can bring an exceptional amount of "intellectual horsepower" to bear on a wide range of pharmaceutical industry projects and problems.

“The Council will facilitate NIPTE’s efforts to advance pharmaceutical innovation, modernize domestic manufacturing, and strengthen the workforce to ensure a resilient, secure and future-ready supply chain for modern medicines,” says Dr. James Drennen, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Duquesne University and current Chair of NIPTE’s Board of Directors.
