2019 Recipient | Shreya Kulkarni, PhD

Shreya Kulkarni is a Research Investigator in the Drug Product Science & Technology department at Bristol-Myers Squibb where she is working on formulation and process development of parenteral drug products. Shreya graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Mumbai University. Following graduation, she joined Rubicon Research in Mumbai as a Research Associate in the Formulation Development department, where she worked on developing generic oral solid drug products.

Her interest in protein therapeutics brought her to the U.S. in 2012. Shreya earned her Masters from University of Colorado Denver where she worked on improving ocular protein delivery, before joining University of Connecticut for her doctorate.

Shreya received her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences under the guidance of Dr. Robin Bogner. Shreya’s graduate research focused on understanding the causes of long reconstitution times in high concentration freezedried protein formulations. She also spent a summer at GlaxoSmithKline as part of her Ph.D. program, assessing the stability of freeze-dried and spray-dried protein drug substance.

Shreya recently received the Baxter Young Investigator Award (2018) for her dissertation research. She also received the graduate student award from AAPS Manufacturing Science and Engineering section, the International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC) and the American Association of Indian Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAiPS) in 2017.
